The Japan Society for the Promotion of Science (JSPS) has decided to award our Ph.D. candidate Ana Delia Parejo Vidal a fellowship under the "FY2022 JSPS Postdoctoral Fellowship for research in Japan (short-term) to conduct research in Japan under the leadership of Professor Masaaki Fujii from Tokyo Institute of Technology. This is a highly prestigious fellowship which supports young researchers with rich creativity and research ability at an early stage in their careers. This post-doctoral fellowship can exceptionally be awarded to Ph.D. candidates. Ana will collaborate with professor Masaaki, a world expert in the study of excited state dynamics of aromatic complexes, in a project that will combine ESI-cold ion trap spectroscopy at Tokyo Tech with our Resonance Multi-Photon Ionization (REMPI) spectroscopy at UCSB to elucidate the dependence of the excited state dynamics on charge and cluster size of guanine. The expectations are finding a hydration-controlled excited state relaxation in protonated guanine, and a conformer-dependence in the IR spectrum in the proton-transfer dynamics.

This is a very exciting step for Ana's future career. During her undergraduate studies, Ana joined our lab to do research thanks to the "Plan Propio" fellowship from the University of Granada, her home university. Now, she will enrich her Ph.D. experience with this opportunity. We are convinced that she will perform very well overseas!
